Delivering Audiovisual Content
Aggregators, distributors and providers of audiovisual media content
As GIGAEurope represents private operators that invest in and operate Gigabit and 5G connectivity networks across Europe, our members have a key role in aggregating, distributing and providing content that is also available online and over video-sharing platforms. Following in the established footsteps of its predecessor, Cable Europe, GIGAEurope is a recognised industry voice and is regularly invited to contribute to discussions on audiovisual and media-related policies that shape and influence the content aggregation, distribution, and provision markets.
To support legal certainty and bolster the operation of the internal media market, GIGAEurope advocates for regulatory consistency across audiovisual media policies. As GIGAEurope members act as content distributors across borders, we support in particular efforts towards more harmonised implementation of existing media regulations flowing from the Audiovisual Media Services Directive.
GIGAEurope also actively supports the existing limited liability regime under the Digital Services Act, which shields passive intermediary service providers from exposure to liability for illegal content flowing through their networks, as long as they warrant pure technical transmission, caching or hosting of signals without monitoring or manipulation of content.
